Jazz Near You is a free event discovery platform for concert goers and a free event distribution platform for musicians, venue owners, and presenters.

Like most software, Jazz Near You continually improves: from how we aggregate event information to how we make those events available to our website readers and our mailing list and app subscribers.

I've outlined our immediate plans and some recent accomplishments (below), but I'm mostly interested in your thoughts on how we should improve our platform.

Jazz Near You's awareness and user base has grown steadily since its October 2012 launch, but we still have much work to do to increase its usage. It's my feeling that Jazz Near You will realize its full potential once everyone connected to jazz uses it.

Recent achievements

  • Logo distribution program. We've developed Jazz Near You logos for 260 cities. The goal is to further brand Jazz Near You and generate as many return links as possible.
  • Customized calendar widget. Website publishers can customize our widget's appearance so it seamlessly fits with their website's design.
  • On Demand Calendar. Users can email themselves an up-to-the-minute calendar in any of our 260 cities.
  • Changing cities. We've improved the change city feature, so users can quickly view events in other cities.
  • Spotlighting events. Musicians, venues, and presenters can greatly increase the exposure of their Jazz Near You event listing by purchasing our Spotlight advertising service. ($40/event)
  • Importing Events. Larger presenting organizations and event aggregators can export their events to JNY via a JSON or XML file.
Future plans and ideas

  • App. Look for an Android version and an improved iOS version of the Jazz Near You app soon.
  • Jazz Radio calendar. We'll add a separate listing to highlight special jazz radio programs in your area.
  • Importing events. We'll continue to work with European and US-based event aggregators to import more events; much in the way we work with Live Jazz Danmark, the Finnish Jazz Federation, and JAZZ.brussels.
  • Streamed events. We'll highlight streamed events so you'll know when to tune in remotely.
  • House concerts. As part of our house concert initiative, we'll provide quick access to jazz house concerts near you.
  • Data entry service. We'll offer a time-saving event entry service.
These are just a few ideas. We'd love to hear yours. So please post them to the comments section below.

Thanks!
