Cuba è sempre stata una feconda fucina di talenti jazz, con pianisti del calibro di Gonzalo Rubalcaba e Chucho Valdes. Sulle orme di questi maestri tenta di muoversi il trentenne Harold Lopez-Nussa, già collaboratore di David Sanchez. Le prime due tracce del CD ne riassumono le enormi potenzialità artistiche, talora distratte da sonorità elettriche di più facile impatto.

Sia "A deguello" che "Cimarron" mettono in luce la maestria tecnica di musicista completo, capace di coniugare il rigore formale della tradizione classica con il pianismo percussivo della tradizione afroamericana. Emerge qui un intricato laboratorio musicale, dove l'eloquenza melodica ben si sposa con l'intricato fraseggio della mano destra per produrre una asimmettrica costruzione dell'assolo e vivaci strappi ritmici.

Al pianoforte elettrico Lopez-Nussa appare meno incisivo, proponendo un jazz piacevole ed elegante, ma non coinvolgente. Toccherà al trentenne musicista qui giunto al suo sesto CD decidere quale strada intraprendere con più convinzione. Intanto emerge nella sua cifra musicale un'ottica trasversale, per dar vita ad un percorso di non grande spessore ma gradevole.
