1. Festival Time!
If you're interested in covering a festival (in the US, Scandinavia, Europe or anywhere else), I can help you make arrangements. Most festivals allow one writer per media source and we've found that festivals are happy to accommodate us. Most will cover a combination or all of your expenses including airfare, lodging, ground transportation and press pass/access in exchange for an article. Send me a private message if you are an active contributor and have a festival in mind.
2. Looking for CDs to review?
Short on CDs to review? If so, consider reviewing some favorites from your personal collection or better yet, check out our page of available titles. You can listen to a track then contact the musician, record label or publicist and request the CD direct.
3. New Columns
Our goal for 2012 is to expand our editorial scope to include more provocative/opinion pieces, more humorous pieces, more columns, and simply to explore new territory. Readers have noticed, so we'll continue to forge ahead. New columns include Skip Heller's Hardly Strictly Jazz, Bob Kenselaar's Jazz in the Aquarian Age, Melanie Futorian's Cymbalism, Sammy Stein's Fre-Formation, Dom Minasi's On and Off the Grid, Behind the Lens (a photographer profile), Alan Bryson's Talkin' Blues, Future Jazz (by various industry pros), Nic Jones's The Moments Energy and Gregg Akkerman's Jazz on the 90th Floor.
4. Improvements Galore
Our mad dash to launch Jazz Near You continues as we made several improvements to the All About Jazz platform over the last two months. We upgraded every submission form, nearly ten in all. Our new forms are smarter and have greatly simplified the process of submitting MP3s, articles, news, events, venues, festivals, musician profiles and member profiles. We're also emailing a weekly concert calendar to our members. If you want to know who's coming to your area, just update your member profile with your zip code (US only) and city and country.
5. Pros for Hire Page
If you added your expert title and expert description to your profile, please contact me and I'll include it on our Pros for Hire page. This feature is limited to active contributors only.
6. Tips for Infrequent Contributors
Some of our writers are coming back after an extended hiatus and are contacting the editorial staff about some basic questions that we address in the guidelines section and on the contributor start page. If it's been a while, please scan the guidelines and bookmark the start page.
